Projected Light is the first painting from “The Cinematographic Series” by mag art Vjeran Čengić, created in 2021. The work presents a striking, acromatic composition centered around a tablecloth illuminated from an angle, laid out flat to reveal the delicate folds of the fabric. Behind it, a deep, sharp black space provides a dramatic contrast, while the upper section features the negative silhouette of a plant in a jar, subtly integrated into the composition.

The painting explores minimalism and the raw beauty of hand-prepared linen canvas, left untouched to highlight texture and simplicity. The Cinematographic Series by Vjeran Cengic, begun in 2021 and continuing to this day, represents a unique exploration of painting on raw linen canvas. The works, mostly in dimensions of 130 x 130 cm, 120 x 100 cm, and 100 x 70 cm, are created entirely by hand using mixed media. Oil is combined with a variety of paints, binders, resins, glues, and other materials to achieve layered textures, vibrant surfaces, and precise control over light and pigment.

These paintings focus on visually reduced classical motifs, such as folded drapery, illuminated canvases, or faint projections of plants in jars. Shapes shift between minimal abstraction and subtle figurative forms, creating a dynamic balance between realism and abstraction, presence and absence, hand and material. The interplay of light, shadow, and form, sometimes enhanced by transparent resin or tactile impasto applications, brings each work to life with both energy and quiet contemplation.
